Featuring musicians from Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir, The Jackson Hole Chorale, The Jazz Foundation of Jackson Hole, and The Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra, Falling for Music is the first concert in the Music in Harmony Concert Series – a series of concerts presented in the beautiful and welcoming space of the Center Theater Lobby.  Refreshments will be available and all ages are welcome to these 40-minute performances.  For more information, visit www.cathedralvoices.org.
Funded in part by the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole and the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, the Music in Harmony Concert Series is coordinated by Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir.  There are few opportunities in Jackson to experience true chamber music, where small groups of musicians perform within arm’s reach of the audience,” commented Laura Huckin, Artistic Director for Cathedral Voices.  “This first concert, which showcases some of the wonderful local talent within our community, will surprise audiences with music that is fun, festive, and lively!”

Summer Sing! – A public workshop offered by Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir was a huge success as well as lots of fun.  Open to all ages and experience, we met each Monday during the week of July, developing singing expertise and creating a true ensemble sound for new singers, many who have now joined our choir as regular members.

The annual Art Fairs held in Jackson Hole’s Miller Park (July 20th & August 18th) featured performances by Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir on their central stage, giving us the opportunity to acquaint our community with our group and its talents.

Old Bill’s Fun Run 2013 has invited us to perform at 10:40 a.m. on the town square stage during the annual fundraising event on Saturday, September 7th.  We are looking forward to entertaining our community with some fun selections!

An Evening of Pop and Jazz Voices

Local vocalists to raise money for music education through a benefit concert

JACKSON, WY. The community is invited to experience An Evening of Pop and Jazz Voices at the Center for the Arts on Monday, May 21st.  Songs from iconic figures such as Billy Joel, James Taylor, George Gershwin, and Fats Waller will be performed by members of Cathedral Voices and Treble Voices—local vocal chamber ensembles who have been performing free concerts for locals and visitors since 2003.

This benefit concert is one night only: Monday, May 21st at 7:30pm in the Black Box Theater. There is a suggested donation of $20 and proceeds will benefit the education and outreach programs of Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir.  Light refreshments will be served. For more information please visit www.cathedralvoices.org.

During An Evening of Pop and Jazz Voices, vocalists from both ensembles will perform classic blues, pop, and jazz, including a number of solos and duets accompanied by the rhythmic and musical talents of Ed Domer (drums), David Bundy (bass), Al Goodman (saxophone), and Laura Huckin (keys).

Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir is best known for its performances of classical choral repertoire, such as Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, the cornerstone of a concert this past December with the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra. “When people hear the term ‘vocal chamber music,’ they have a certain idea of what that means and what kind of music it represents.  We are constantly pushing the boundaries of what vocal chamber music is, and can be,” commented Artistic Director, Laura Huckin.  “We are excited to go outside of the box for this concert.”

Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir is raising money to support its education and outreach programs through this benefit concert.  “There are only so many grants we can write and concert donations we can hope for; it is time we reach out to the community to help us expand our impact,” commented Huckin. “We’d love to see our Singing in the Schools program grow to include vocal coaching for High School choir students preparing for district-wide festivals and auditions.” Additional initiatives include a music summer camp with a vocal emphasis, special concerts at River Rock Lodge and the Senior Center, as well as maintaining its free community concert series for the public.

Let Spring Sing!

Local chamber choirs present two free concerts this month.

JACKSON, WY. The community is invited to two free spring concerts presented by Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir this month.  Showcasing music across genres, The Road Home features melodies inspired by native traditions this side of the Atlantic and beyond.  Highlights of the concert include a featured set performed by Slip ‘n the Jigs, a local Celtic band.  Judith Weikle, local Celtic songstress, will also take the stage.  The Cathedral Voices and Treble Voices Choirs will perform music by James Taylor and a moving Requiem written after the 2004 Asian Tsunami, rounding out this concert showcasing local talent. Performances take place Sunday, March 18th at 4pm and Thursday, March 22nd at 7:30pm.  Admission is Free; all ages welcome.  Both concerts are in the auditorium of the Jackson Hole High School.  For more information please visit www.cathedralvoices.org.
“Since the winter season began, some of the most talented voices from the local Jackson community have come together and rehearsed weekly for these concerts,” commented Cathedral Voices Board Member, Laura Goldstein. “We hope the audience enjoys what promises to be a moving and heartwarming musical experience.”
To compliment this musical journey, Cathedral Voices invited Judith Weikle (who is also a member of the choir) and Slip ‘n the Jigs to perform Irish and Celtic-inspired music.  “Given the concerts’ close proximity to Saint Patrick’s Day as well as the concert theme—a musical exploration of place, and its value in our lives—it seemed all too perfect to include Celtic music, which is so deeply rooted in place.”
The Road Home features Treble Voices, an all-women’s ensemble, performing wistful Scottish and Irish songs along with a captivating Native American melody and a lush harmony from the rural south arranged by Ruth Moody of The Wailin’ Jennys.  Cathedral Voices will sing a delicate, heartwarming song by world-renowned Eric Whitacre as well as a classic, high-energy Moses Hogan spiritual. Both choirs come together to perform James Taylor’s Shed a Little Light, sure to get toes tapping, as well as the inspiring title piece, The Road Home, by Stephen Paulus.
The program will be performed twice: Sunday, March 18 at 4pm and Thursday, March 22 at 7:30pm! For more information, be sure to visit www.cathedralvoices.org.
Concerts like this require significant financial support and we wish to thank some of our donors including: Wyoming Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Cultural Council of Jackson Hole/Town and County Arts for All, Old Bill’s Fun Run, and many individual donors who support live music in Jackson Hole.

ABOUT JACKSON HOLE BRASS QUINTET
In 2003 a group of local brass players began meeting on a casual basis to play quintet music – with sometimes as many as 10 players, it made for a unique and lively (if not oversized!) ensemble. Eventually, five of the regular players decided to come together as a group and form the Jackson Hole Brass Quintet. A flexible ensemble, the quintet has a repertoire encompassing musical genres from madrigals to jazz and everything in between. Four original members still comprise the JHBQ, and the group practices together weekly for several hours, with rare exception. The Quintet performs regularly throughout our community, appearing at the Farmer’s Market, Jackson Hole Showcase, holiday performances and in recital. Jackson Hole Brass Quintet is a sponsored ensemble of the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra.  http://jhbq.jhcband.org/
ABOUT JACKSON HOLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra, formerly the Orchestra of the Tetons, began in the spring of 1999 through the efforts of several local musicians. Rehearsals began in a local church with about 20 players in attendance, many of whom pulled their instruments out of retirement and cleaned off  the dust. The orchestra has since grown to include some 30 members with the addition of brass, woodwinds, and percussion. It is a refreshing combination of professionals, semiprofessionals, and amateurs, and they are always eager to welcome new string players to join them.  The mission of the Orchestra is to provide local musicians with an outlet to expand their musical ability, knowledge, and talent. A further goal is to provide the community with orchestral music during the fall, winter, and spring months.

2011-2012 Choir Members

Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir is pleased to announce the vocalists for this upcoming season of community concerts and events. There are several new members to both chamber choirs under the umbrella of this organization. Rehearsals begin next week for both choirs. Congratulations everyone and welcome to another season of exciting repertoire!
