Summer Sing! is summer school for singers, except without the report card! Cathedral Voices is offering individual and small group instruction to expand your personal knowledge, skills, and confidence as a singer.

Why Summer Sing?

The rehearsal process for a choir is often intense, and is focused on perfecting and polishing for a performance within a limited number of rehearsals. Frankly, there isn’t enough time for in-depth learning of core musical concepts.

SUMMER SING!

Offerings

Small Group Classes sight singing and keyboard basics for the singer.
Open Studio Time free use of Cathedral Voices’ Studio for personal practice.
Individual Voice and Piano Lessons with qualified instructors.

All lessons and classes are 4 weeks.

Small Group Classes

Small Group Classes are offered Wednesday evenings, July 16, 23, 30, & August 6 at the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole.

Sight Singing Practicum, 6:00-6:30pm, $45 for 4-week session

Dust off your skills with this guided, step by step approach. Class will learn tips and tricks to increase your confidence. Lots of group practice with solfeggio and count-singing. Class includes a workbook and accompaniment mp3s for personal study.

Keyboard Basics for the Singer, 6:45-7:15pm, $65 for 4-week session

Whether you know how to read staff notation or not, this small group course will provide an introduction to basic keyboard skills, helping singers learn how to identify and “plunk out” a melody. Notation, rhythm, and simple theory is incorporated into this small group, hands-on class.

Individual Voice & Piano Lessons

Do you prefer one-on-one? Try private lessons with a voice or piano instructor at the Center for the Arts. Piano is offered July 10-31, Voice is offered July 29-August 21.

Voice Lessons, Tuesday & Thursday by appointment

Individual Voice Lessons are taught by Janet Erickson and Taralee Fairclough. There is a minimum 3-session commitment. Your voice instructor will work with you on the focus areas of most concern to you, tailoring your private lessons to meet your goals, with a lot of great singing practice!

Sample focus areas for individual lessons could include:

Healthy Vocal Technique – vocal concepts, tone, & breath work
Music theory – key signatures, notation, rhythm
Understanding the Score – breaking down the choral score

Piano Lessons, Thursday by appointment

Individual Piano Lessons – Want to focus on your piano skills instead? No problem! Piano is offered Thursday mornings, July 10-31 with Laura Huckin. Learn the fundamentals of the piano, or dig deeper into theory. Lessons tailored to the specific needs and ability of each student. Don’t have a piano? Sign up for practice time in Cathedral Voices’ Studio during Open Studio hours.

Individual Lesson Rates vary with length of lesson but range from $25 – $50.

Open Studio

Cathedral Voices’ Office Studio at the Center for the Arts is equipped with a digital keyboard and available for use (for free) by all participants of Summer Sing!. Available hours are posted online for signup. Take advantage of this private space for practicing voice or piano.

Registered Summer Sing! participants will receive a link to view and sign up for available open studio hours. The Studio is available 6 days a week. Morning, afternoon, and evening times vary.
