Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir Launches 2026–2027 Season with Community Sing!

JACKSON, WY — Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir opens its 2026–2027 season with Community Sing!, a joyful, all-community singing experience at the Center for the Arts on Tuesday, September 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the Center Theater Lobby. Free and open to the public, the event welcomes singers and non-singers of all ages.

Designed as both a musical gathering and a moment of well-being, Community Sing! brings together breath, movement, and song in an atmosphere that is playful, welcoming, and free of judgment. Led by Cathedral Voices Artistic Director Laura Huckin, the one-hour experience invites participants to relax the body, connect with the breath, and discover the joy of making music together.

“Singing is something we are all capable of, but many people become hesitant to share their voices because they fear judgment,” says Huckin. “Community Sing! is an opportunity to set that fear aside and to realize that singing truly is for everyone.”

Beyond its artistic rewards, group singing offers meaningful benefits for physical, emotional, and social well-being. Research has associated singing with reduced stress, increased feelings of well-being, improved breathing and lung function, and stronger social connection.

For Huckin, however, the most important benefit may be the simple act of giving people permission to use their voices. “Take a break from your day and dedicate one hour to yourself,” she says. “Come as you are, bring your voice, and see what happens when we sing together.”

Community Sing! is intended to be an accessible entry point into the vibrant culture of group singing in Jackson Hole. Information about local choirs and other opportunities to continue singing will be available for participants who are inspired to keep making music.

25-26 Season Ends with the Soulful Celebration of a Diverse Nation

JACKSON, WY — On April 26th, Cathedral Voices ended its concert season with a jubilant, soulful celebration of the diverse cultural traditions that shape our community and our nation. Conducted by Laura Huckin, with special guest conductor Dr. Brandon A. Boyd, Songs of Spirit: Our Song, Our Story highlighted the power of music to tell stories, preserve heritage, and foster connection.

Saturday morning, April 25th, the Center came alive with singing and smiles during a free community workshop directed by Brandon A. Boyd exploring the African American roots of gospel and spiritual music. Saturday afternoon continued with an open rehearsal as the Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir worked intensely with Dr. Boyd to prepare for Sunday’s afternoon concert, Songs of Spirit.

Songs of Spirit commenced with an acknowledgment of the ancestral homelands of the Native American tribes indigenous to this region. Vibrant and diverse selections of music from Ireland, Mexico, Peru, North America, and the Middle East honored the voices and personal stories of the local community (including members of the Cathedral Voices choir). Traditional instruments such as the cajón, tumbadoras, guitar, and flute accompanied local vocalists showcasing cultural music in Spanish, Hebrew, and English.

Conducted by Dr. Boyd, the second half of the concert invited a deeper appreciation for Black history and its enduring influence on American music. Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir performed gospels, spirituals, and concert music composed and arranged by African American composers, including several women of color. At the conclusion, the audience was invited to stand and sing as Cathedral Voices brought the house down with a contemporary gospel arrangement written by Brandon A. Boyd himself.

The afternoon concluded with a celebratory toast in the Center Theater Lobby as musicians and audience gathered together in appreciation of our shared heritage and the unity we find through music.

Throughout the weekend, the theme of honoring our past was reinforced by an interactive display in the Center Theater Lobby, supported by the Wyoming Semiquincentennial Planning Task Force.  Cathedral Voices invited participants, musicians, and audience to mark their history with colored pins on a giant 6-foot world map.  Additional prompts and note cards invited further elaboration of personal stories, a reminder that our collective diversity as a community, and as a nation, is unique and worthy of celebration.

Songs of Spirit: Our Song, Our Story was an incredible display of community harmony and integrity as Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir was joined by local instrumentalists and soloists to recognize, remember, and rejoice in our history as Wyomingites.

The concert and weekend events were supported in part by an Arts for All Wyoming 250 grant from the Teton County Semiquincentennial Committee as well as the Wyoming Arts Council, private foundations, and local institutions and businesses.

Classical Academy Children’s Choir joins Spring Festival Lineup
Academy Choir brings young voices to Walk Festival Hall  
JACKSON, WY.  Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir’s second Spring Music Festival presents four days of performances, lectures, and open rehearsals, featuring Dan Forrest, an internationally-acclaimed choral composer, educator, and pianist. Jackson Hole Classical Academy’s Children’s Choir will be a featured ensemble at the May 4th Gala Concert at Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village.  For details, visit www.cathedralvoices.org.
The Classical Academy Choir is comprised of students in grades 3-9. This afterschool choir is an extension of the rich musical program offered at Jackson Hole Classical Academy.  Lisa Landis, Music Director, said, “Our students are honored to perform in Walk Festival Hall with Dan Forrest.” Polly J. Friess, Head of School, added, “This will be an enriching experience for our students to learn directly from a notable composer.”
“The arts are an integral part of the curriculum taught at the Academy,” noted Artistic Director, Laura Huckin.  “Cathedral Voices wants to support this commitment to the performing arts, and encourage these students to keep singing!”  The Academy Choir will have the privilege of meeting and rehearsing with Dan Forrest on May 2nd.

Dan Forrest (b. 1978) has been described as having “an undoubted gift for writing beautiful music….that is truly magical” (NY Concert Review). Born in Elmira, New York, Mr. Forrest received a B.Mus. and an M.Mus. in Piano Performance from Bob Jones University and a D.M.A. in composition from the University of Kansas. Since its first publication in 2001, Dan’s music has sold millions of copies, and is well established in the repertoire of choirs in the U.S. and around the world.
