Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Op. 80

Cathedral Voices is thrilled to invite local singers and choralists to join the 2024 Spring Festival Concert, singing Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. It is a stunning piece of music about 20 minutes long. The work opens with a vibrant piano introduction, the orchestra joins in a playful response, and in the last 5 minutes vocal soloists and choir join the triumphant anthem.

We will sing this in German, but do not fear! The Beethoven Chorus web portal will include pronunciation guides to practice with, as well as part-predominant tracks for the choral section. You will have all you need to become very familiar with this beautiful work by May 4th. You may also join us on Tuesday evenings in April (see the schedule below) to practice with Cathedral Voices.

Beethoven Chorus Rehearsal & Performance Update

Full Chorus rehearsal in the Center Theater is Saturday, May 4th, 1:00-3:45pm.
Warmup Sunday, May 5th at 1:00pm in the Center Theater. Dress rehearsal, 1:30-3:00pm.
Concert May 5th at 4:00pm

REGISTRATION

There is no cost to participate in the Beethoven Chorus, except the purchase of your music. We have already purchased extra choral scores and are happy to deliver to you via mail, digitally, or arrange pick-up in Jackson. Whatever is easiest for you. The music is yours to keep.

ADDITIONAL SINGING OPPORTUNITY

If one 5 minute singing moment isn’t enough for you, consider joining us for Arirang! This exciting work is composed by South Korean composer Hyo-Won Woo. We will sing it in Korean with piano and Korean percussion. Again, the web portal will provide pronunciation guides and part-predominant tracks to learn your part. You may also join us on Tuesday evenings in April (see the schedule below) to practice with Cathedral Voices.

OPTIONAL IN-PERSON REHEARSALS

It is always great to meet and sing in person! If you’d like extra practice outside of your personal study, all singers are welcome to join Cathedral Voices in-person in Jackson (or on Zoom) on the following dates:

Tuesday, April 9th, 6:30-7:30pm
Tuesday, April 16th, 6:30-7:30pm
Tuesday, April 23rd, 6:30-7:30pm
Tuesday, April 30th, 6:30-7:30pm

These are not required rehearsals, but an option if your schedule permits. Location and rehearsal reminders will be emailed at the end of March to all registered singers.
