Cathedral Voices Performs at Carnegie Hall in New York City
JACKSON, WY. On January 19, 2016, Cathedral Voices performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, representing the Jackson Community and Wyoming. Alongside 183 singers from across the United States and Canada, the choir participated in The Music of Dan Forrest. “I am so proud of the hard work our members committed themselves to in preparing for this memorable event,” said Laura Huckin, Artistic Director. “To experience the Carnegie stage, with a talented conductor and a full orchestra, was unbelievable. As a choir, and as individuals, we learned so much.”
The concert was organized by Distinguished Concert International New York, and Cathedral Voices was one of 12 ensembles invited. The 4-day residency in New York included over 9 hours of rehearsals, to prepare for the performance at Carnegie; but rehearsals began much sooner than 4 days prior. “We had thirteen rehearsals over the course of 6 weeks, just to learn the music well enough so we could spend our time in New York polishing and fine-tuning it,” commented Laura Huckin. Making it even more meaningful was the attendance of composer Dan Forrest at the final rehearsal and performance, and then his personal visit with the choirs afterwards.
“It was so special to represent our community in a way we are extremely proud of,” added choir member, Laura Goldstein. Cathedral Voices looks forward to sharing some of the music from Carnegie Hall, at a spring concert to be held in the Center Theater on April 17.
