Celebrate the Season with Music!

Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir and Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra perform two free concerts this month
JACKSON, WY.  The Community is invited to two free and festive holiday concerts, Expressions of the Season, by Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir and Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra this holiday season!   This first-ever collaborative concert by these two ensembles features both groups performing together in Vivaldi’s celebratory Gloria for chamber orchestra, soloists and choir. Familiar and festive holiday favorites round out this program performed by local talent, and the concert includes an appearance by the ever-popular Jackson Hole Brass Quintet. Performances take place Sunday, December 18 at 3PM and Tuesday, December 20 at 7PM in Walk Festival Hall, Teton Village. Admission is free, all ages are welcome. For more information please visit www.cathedralvoices.org
“I am delighted by this opportunity for Cathedral Voices to co-present a concert of this caliber with the Symphony Orchestra,” said Laura Huckin, Artistic Director for Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir.  “The level of musicianship and the dedication of every musician and vocalist are very impressive; it has made the rehearsal process this fall extremely rewarding…and a whole lot of fun.”
The concert program features a variety of repertoire, including W.A. Mozart’s Queen of the Night’s Aria arranged for brass, Morten Lauridsen’s contemporary setting of O Magnum Mysterium for a cappella voices, and a Concerto Grosso by Arcangelo Corelli for strings.
Several students from the Jackson Hole High School Orchestra will perform alongside alumni and community musicians in this concert. Mitch Smith and Jack Keckler will be featured on the Corelli Concerto. These students, along with Winston Scofield (cello) Marena-Salerno-Collins (viola) and Emily Johnson (violin), were also recently selected to participate in the 2012 All State Orchestra. “It is exciting to see students from Jackson playing at this level and contributing to our local ensembles,” commented Vince Gutwein, director of the Teton County School District Orchestra Program, and cellist with the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra. “This is a great opportunity for them to work alongside an exceptional choir and participate in a community performance.”
Expressions of the Season will be performed twice—Sunday, December 18 at 3pm, and again on Tuesday, December 20 at 7pm.  Both concerts are in Walk Festival Hall, and are free. For more information, including parking details, be sure to visit www.cathedralvoices.org
These free community music performances would not be possible without the support of the Wyoming Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Old Bill’s Fun Run, Cultural Council of Jackson Hole/Town and County Arts for All, and the DanaSco fund.
ABOUT CATHEDRAL VOICES
Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir, whose name was inspired by the majestic Cathedral Group of mountains in nearby Grand Teton National Park, is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to excellence in vocal chamber music performance and education.  Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir presents free choral music concerts several times a year and educational opportunities for aspiring vocalists of all ages. Cathedral Voices is an auditioned ensemble of 14 singers and Treble Voices—an all-women’s vocal ensemble—is the newest addition to the organization. Both choirs explore repertoire of all genres, and centuries, from the classics to the contemporary.  Singing in the Schools is Cathedral Voices’ first-ever education program, placing trained vocalists in the classroom to work with middle school and high school choir students.  http://www.cathedralvoices.org
ABOUT JACKSON HOLE BRASS QUINTET
In 2003 a group of local brass players began meeting on a casual basis to play quintet music – with sometimes as many as 10 players, it made for a unique and lively (if not oversized!) ensemble. Eventually, five of the regular players decided to come together as a group and form the Jackson Hole Brass Quintet. A flexible ensemble, the quintet has a repertoire encompassing musical genres from madrigals to jazz and everything in between. Four original members still comprise the JHBQ, and the group practices together weekly for several hours, with rare exception. The Quintet performs regularly throughout our community, appearing at the Farmer’s Market, Jackson Hole Showcase, holiday performances and in recital. Jackson Hole Brass Quintet is a sponsored ensemble of the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra.  http://jhbq.jhcband.org/
ABOUT JACKSON HOLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra, formerly the Orchestra of the Tetons, began in the spring of 1999 through the efforts of several local musicians. Rehearsals began in a local church with about 20 players in attendance, many of whom pulled their instruments out of retirement and cleaned off  the dust. The orchestra has since grown to include some 30 members with the addition of brass, woodwinds, and percussion. It is a refreshing combination of professionals, semiprofessionals, and amateurs, and they are always eager to welcome new string players to join them.  The mission of the Orchestra is to provide local musicians with an outlet to expand their musical ability, knowledge, and talent. A further goal is to provide the community with orchestral music during the fall, winter, and spring months.
