An Evening of Pop and Jazz Voices
Local vocalists to raise money for music education through a benefit concert
JACKSON, WY. The community is invited to experience An Evening of Pop and Jazz Voices at the Center for the Arts on Monday, May 21st. Songs from iconic figures such as Billy Joel, James Taylor, George Gershwin, and Fats Waller will be performed by members of Cathedral Voices and Treble Voices—local vocal chamber ensembles who have been performing free concerts for locals and visitors since 2003.
This benefit concert is one night only: Monday, May 21st at 7:30pm in the Black Box Theater. There is a suggested donation of $20 and proceeds will benefit the education and outreach programs of Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir. Light refreshments will be served. During An Evening of Pop and Jazz Voices, vocalists from both ensembles will perform classic blues, pop, and jazz, including a number of solos and duets accompanied by the rhythmic and musical talents of Ed Domer (drums), David Bundy (bass), Al Goodman (saxophone), and Laura Huckin (keys).
Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir is best known for its performances of classical choral repertoire, such as Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, the cornerstone of a concert this past December with the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra. “When people hear the term ‘vocal chamber music,’ they have a certain idea of what that means and what kind of music it represents. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of what vocal chamber music is, and can be,” commented Artistic Director, Laura Huckin. “We are excited to go outside of the box for this concert.”
Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir is raising money to support its education and outreach programs through this benefit concert. “There are only so many grants we can write and concert donations we can hope for; it is time we reach out to the community to help us expand our impact,” commented Huckin. “We’d love to see our Singing in the Schools program grow to include vocal coaching for High School choir students preparing for district-wide festivals and auditions.” Additional initiatives include a music summer camp with a vocal emphasis, special concerts at River Rock Lodge and the Senior Center, as well as maintaining its free community concert series for the public.
